Social Sciences Research Institute (SSRI) is located at National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad is the prime institute of social sciences in agriculture. It was established as Socioeconomic Program in 1984 as Agricultural Economic Research Unit (AERU), later on upgraded as Social Sciences Institute by adding Computer and Statistics section under Master Research Plan of NARC in July 1990; Renamed as SSRI in 2012.Being the prime institution of Social Sciences in Agriculture, the focus of the institute is to undertake research on demand-based priority issues of national and regional importance. In future, the target of the institute is to become the Centre of Excellence for Social Sciences Research in agriculture.
