Dr. Muhammad Mansoor , Director General, NARC
Dr. Muhammad Mansoor is a distinguished agricultural scientist with over 31 years of professional experience in agricultural research, crop improvement, climate-smart agriculture, and research management. He is currently serving as Director General, National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad, where he provides strategic leadership and oversees national agricultural research, innovation, and technology development programs.
Dr. Mansoor holds a PhD in Agriculture and completed his Post-Doctoral Studies at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), focusing on biodiversity, molecular breeding, and climate resilience in crops. Throughout his career, he has held several key leadership positions in the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), including Member (Plant Sciences Division), Chief Scientific Officer, and National Coordinator (Food Legumes).
A renowned plant breeder and researcher, Dr. Mansoor has made significant contributions to Pakistan's agricultural sector through the development and release of 14 improved crop varieties of mungbean, lentil, chickpea, mothbean, and kidney beans. He successfully led the PSDP-funded project “Promoting Research for Productivity Enhancement in Pulses” worth Rs. 1.437 billion and has been instrumental in formulating Pakistan's first-ever Pulses Policy Framework and Mechanism for Pulses Buyback with Indicative Prices.
Dr. Mansoor has authored and co-authored 62 peer-reviewed research publications, produced several technical manuals, and supervised numerous PhD scholars. His outstanding scientific contributions have earned him several prestigious recognitions, including the Best Scientist of PARC Award (2021), PARC Meritorious Services Award (2024), and Pride of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Award (2025).
His areas of expertise include plant breeding and genetics, pulse crop research, climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, and agricultural policy and research management. Dr. Mansoor remains committed to advancing agricultural innovation and strengthening food security through science-driven solutions and collaborative research initiatives.
