It is conducting research
on grain storage; pesticide use including its residual effect and toxicological studies;
vertebrate pest control, etc. The Centre has developed useful techniques to minimize
post-harvest losses, particularly in grain crops, which are estimated in the range of 20
to 30 percent.
OBJECTIVES-
- To ensure quality of pesticides referred to the laboratory
by different agencies/individuals.
- To study residues of pesticides in marketed fruits,
vegetables and other agricultural commodities.
- To study the toxicological effects on different crops.
Vertebrate Pest control
Institute
- Formulation of Capsular Baiting Technique for control of wild boar for different
agro-ecosystems of Pakistan.
- Modified and introduced portable Australian Crow Trap (MAC Trap) for
capturing/controlling bird pests (sparrows, parrots, crow etc.) in the field.
Pesticides Research Institute
- 200 samples annually of pesticides tested for quality control purposes.
- Screening of fruits, vegetables, dairy milk, cotton seed its oil for multiple pesticides
residues
Grain Storage Research Institute
- Developed technologies for farm level, market level and public sector storages
- Developed NIMBOKIL 60 EC, a Neem based pesticide for control of insect pests of
agricultural crop
- Developed NIMBOLI, a Neem based pesticide for control of household insect pests
Crops Diseases Research Institute
- Studies on effect of fungicides in control of seed borne diseases of different crops
have been carried out
- Provided diagnostic and advisory services to farmers for identification of plant
diseases and their control
