CDRI Murree Glasshouse
CDRI substation Sunny Bank, Murree is located in a mountainous ecology where although fruit and vegetables are important crops but this institute has played a significant role in the mainstream agriculture through its work on cereal rust. The site was selected after a thorough survey by a Canadian team that visited Gilgit, Chitral, Swat, Kaghan and AJK. The purpose was to select a suitable site for the establishment of a laboratory and glasshouse for conducting research on cereal rusts. The work on the site was started in 1958 with an aid from Canadian Government and the lab and greenhouse started its functioning in 1960 under Department of Plant Protection, Food and Agricultural Council olf Pakistan. In 1978 Pakistan Agricultural Research Council took over the charge of the CDRI. The Station is conducting research on the following aspects;
Knowledge Generation and Technology Development
Disease Monitoring: Incidence of stripe, leaf and stem rusts, Karnal bunt and flag smut
Pathotype and Virulence Analysis: Glass house studies
Identification of Sources of Resistance: Screening of breeders material in the seedling and adult stage through multilocation testing
Rust Resistance Gene Postulation in Wheat Germplasm/Commercial material
