Groundnut
| GROUNDNUT (Arachis hypogaea L.) is the cash crop of the Pothwar region. During 2017-18, area under groundnut crop was 99.1thousand hectares with annual production of 86.1thousand tones and average dry pods yield was 869 kg/ha. Its cultivation is mostly concentrating in Rawalpindi division i.e. Pothowar Region. Groundnut kernel is rich in both oil (43-55 %) and protein (25-28 %). Its oil contains about 22 % linoleic acid and 61 % oleic acid and is considered one of the best vegetable oil for human consumption. The province wise distribution showed that about 85 % area lies in Punjab, 10 % in NWFP and 5 % in Sindh. |
