National Institute of Bioremediation

Aquatic plants nursery
National institute of Bioremediation has established aquatic plants nursery with diverse collection indigenous aquatic flora. Pakistan flora is known by its richness (approximately 6000 species) taxonomic diversity with high number of endemic species. Nursery at the National level of the institute as is necessary for the conservation, readily available, re-vegetation and dissemination for the wastewater management at National level. A total 35 species and sub-species of the aquatic plants have been collected, among these 25 species screened and applied as a candidate potential species under local environmental conditions to treat wastewater at National level.

Waste water quality analysis facility.
Water Quality Lab at NIB, NARC was strengthened by addition of new chemical parameters this year i.e. Turbidity, Hardness, Ca-Hardness, Mg-Hardness, COD and BOD. Other parameters regularly monitored i.e. pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Salts, Salinity, Chlorides, Free Carbon Dioxide, Carbonates, Bicarbonates, Nitrates, Sulphates, Phosphates, Dissolved Oxygen, Oil/Grease and microbial contaminants (Fecal Coliform and Total Coliform) in the waste water of domestic and industrial origin.

Integrated Sanitation & Farming System (ISFS)
“ISFS” approach is applied with integration of bio-remediation process to maintain the aesthetic and financial sustainability of the used-water treatment facilities."Integrated Sanitation & Farming System" is an approach that utilizes all given natural resources optimally with integration to one another and maintains sustainable healthy environment. It facilitates in reusing organic used-matter with

Particular Natural Process

Applying Beekeeping

Aquatic Plants Treatment system

Used water treatment with microbiological consortia

For Pollination of seed and fruits

Use Duckweeds for Irrigation and protein-enriched food for poultry and animals

Constructed wetland

Plankton treated used water for fish

Can be used in bio-digester to enhance bio-methane production

Use of UV light and aquatic plants

Grow mushrooms for humans by using Byproducts of wheat, cotton and rice

Can be used in making different natural Compost

Animal sanitation to use dung in bio-digester

Use remaining compost as Natural fertilizer

Digested slurry for organic farming
