M/o National Food Security & Research is adamant to ensure availability of Safe Hygiene and Nutritious Food: Malik Zahoor Ahmed Awan, Special Advisor for M/o National Food Security & Research, Islamabad

Islamabad (23rd November 2017)……Chairperson Codex Alimenttarius Ms. Awilo Ochieng Pernet from Switzerland has a call on meeting with Malik Zahoor Ahmed, Special Advisor for Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Islamabad. The Meeting was held at Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (HQs), Islamabad in its pursuit of achieving the goal of promoting sustainable supply of healthy & hygienic food and improvement in food production system in Pakistan.It was also discussed in the meeting that through adopting modern techniques from farm to fork, the farmers & consumers can get income and get food on competitive prices. Malik Zahoor Ahmed said that both M/o NFSR and PARC are working to promote the availability of safe and healthy food for everyone to improve food and nutrition security. This activity strongly promotes the integration of food safety into nutrition and food security programs. Ms. Mina Dowlatchahi, FAO Rep. in Pakistan was also participant of the meeting.

On the occasion, Ms. Pernet appreciated the activities of Ministry with respect to the Food Security and Safety and asked for strengthening this relationship further to improve the health and nutrition of the Pakistanis. Malik Zahoor Ahemd said that our elite organization (PARC) has drafted the National Food Security Policy wherein the matters relating to food productions, safety, traceability, nutrition etc was given due significance. Actions on this policy have already been started with the coordination of the provinces to ensure safe food by regulating the food business and awareness to the Stakeholders. He stressed the need for orientation of Pakistani scientists and implementing agencies towards the latest advancement of international companies and standards to make Pakistani products competitive and acceptable to the international market for increasing Pakistani exports and reaching all markets.

Ms. Mina Dowalchahi, FAO Rep. in Pakistan also confirmed her support to Govt. of Pakistan in this venture like its assistance at policy level to promote and develop sustainable agriculture in Pakistan. She further explained that FAO has played a vital role towards improving the agriculture sector in various ways over the past.International Project Manager FAO, Mr. Marcel Stallen, Intl Project Manager and Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali, Member (Plant Sciences), PARC were also the participants of the meeting.
