A one day training cum work shop on “Off seasons vegetables “was organized by National Tea & High Value Crops Research Institute, Shinkiari on 16th January , 2015. under the “AIP, AVRDC”. Eighteen beneficiaries and seven non beneficiaries of AVRDC of different communities from different union councils participated in the workshop cum training . The objectives of the training/workshop to introduce the ongoing activities of the project, identification of the off seasons vegetables suitable for different area in different cluster close proximity to NTHRI for sustainable production.
Dr. F.S. Hamid Director, NTHRI being a Focal Person of the project in his welcome address ,briefed about the vegetables cultivation in district Mansehra , future prospects and ongoing current activities of the Institute on off seasons vegetables crop. Mr. Abdul Waheed Working partner of the project gave the detailed presentation on vegetables growing , off seasons crops and its benefits in term of income .On this occasion he said that the growers can avail the facility of vegetables seedling, tunnels farming based training for efficient production at the Institute, facilitated by the AVRDC for such type of activities during project period .
In the second session all participants visited vegetables garden and participated in practical activities. In this practical session they visited vegetables nurseries, weather station, high and low shade tunnel nursery, different types of vegetables grown under walk in tunnel at the Institute. Critically watched experiments conducted over here and took very keen interest. At the least leg of their field visit they have a round of Display Center. Last session was concluding on technical discussion, question answers and knowledge sharing remained fruitful. While Director NTHRI Dr. F.S. Hamid paid a vote of thanks to all the participants prior to this they were distributed vegetables seed of 100-500 grams of different types free of cost.
