Islamabad (November 25)……….. Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) being apex agricultural research organization at national level has organized a meeting of National Agricultural Research System (NARS) to prepare 8 – 10 years comprehensive national level proposal to boost R&D in Pulses. This meeting was held as follow up of directives of Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA) in its meeting for Rabi season 2016-17.
Dr. Sartaj Khan, National Coordinator (Sugar & Food Legumes) PARC gave a comprehensive presentation on status of Pulses in Pakistan. He also highlighted the challenges and opportunities for pulse crops in our Agriculture.
Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Member of Plant Sciences Division of PARC urged the NARS scientists to work jointly for the betterment of pulses in Pakistan through varietal improvement, crop management with climate smart technologies; and mechanized farm management for productivity enhancement.
Dr. Nadeem Amjad, Acting Chairman PARC while presiding over the meeting vowed to make Pulses Programme, at PARC, vibrant again. He also highlighted salient features and PARC’s contribution in the on-going exercise of revitalization of agricultural research system in Pakistan.
It was decided that the preliminary concept proposal to boost R&D in Pulses will be prepared by National Coordinator (Sugar & Food Legumes) PARC in consultation of national partners to utilize the NARS strengths efficiently. The proposal will be submitted to PSDP for funding.
