Female Training on “Integrated Pest Management and Diseases of Off-Season Vegetable Crops” at NTHRI, Mansehra

Mansehra (February 22)................ One day Female training program on “Integrated Pest Management and Diseases in Off-Season Vegetable Crops” was organized at NTHRI Shinkiari on February 22, 2016 in collaboration with AIP-AVRDC (The World Vegetable Production Center). All the indirect female beneficiaries of AVRDC from both the clusters and multi discipliners scientists of NTHRI participated in the training program.

Program started with recitation of Holy Quran. Dr. F.S. Hamid Sr. Director (NTHRI) and Mr. Sheeraz Training Expert (AVRDC) Islamabad jointly welcomed the female participants and briefed about role of AVRDC in vegetable sector. Dr. Abdul Waheed PSO/ Working Partner (AVRDC) NTHRI highlighted the goals of Training and achievements made so far under the AVRDC project in district Mansehra through NTHRI. Two presentations regarding "Maintenance & Care of Off-season Vegetable Cultivation in District Mansehra" and "Integrated Pest Management and Diseases of Off-Season Vegetable Crops" were also made. Participants were informed that the K.P. province has great potential in vegetables production. Two practical sessions, one in Horticultural Laboratory and other in field at NTHRI Vegetable section, were conducted. In discussion session some question and answers were shared among scientists and female beneficiaries regarding seedling production, insect pest and diseases of off-season vegetables.

After the completion of training, certificates were also awarded to all participants. At the end of training, vote of thanks was offered to the participants and organizers. It was expected that the training would lead to development of IPM and better vegetable cultivation, which would not only enhance the income of farmers but also help to boost the productions of off-season vegetables.
