Scientists need to transfer latest tech to farmers: Ali

ISLAMABAD (APP)- Agricultural scientists and farmers work together for developing agricultural sector of Pakistan. This was stated by Syed Ali Mardan Shah, Minister of Sindh here at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC)’s Research Station while presiding over a meeting at Umer-kot, in Sindh. The meeting was organized by Chairman, PARC Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed to review the over all progress of the Research Station and was attended by Agricultural Scientists, Progressive farmers and high officials of the Sindh Government.
 

Speaking at this occasion Syed Ali Mardan Shah has said that Sindh Government will provide all possible assistance to PARC for enhancing the agricultural production and income of farmers. He said that PARC is playing an important role for developing agricultural sector. He urged the Sindh agriculture and Extension department to jointly make efforts with PARC so that farmers could benefit from latest technologies for increasing their production. The Minister took keen interest in the PARC activities.
 

While speaking in the meeting Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Chairman, PARC said that it is imperative that latest education to farmers will help to bring radical changes in agricultural sector. He said PARC will introduce varieties of crops with low water consumption and these varieties will get popularity among the farming community. He urged the agricultural scientists that they should develop such projects and technologies that are beneficial to the farmers of this area. He directed the agricultural scientists working at Umerkot and Thatta that completer survey report of Thar area, transfer of technology to farmers and quarterly meetings should be organized which include progressive farmers, representatives of agricultural/extension department and feed back of these meetings should be intimated to PARC Islamabad regularly.
 

Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed also visited the Pak-Chian(Phase-I) Project on Banana Tissue Culture, where Mr. Fateh Khan Nizamani, Incharge of who briefed him about the various activities being carried out there.
 

Nawab Yousaf Talpur in a meeting with Dr. Ifrtikhar Ahmed agreed that Sindh Government, elected representative and local management will provide all possible assistance to PARC Research Station at Umerkot and Thatta.
 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ulfat Nabi Khan, Director General, Southern Agricultural Research Centre (SARC), Dr. Ghazanfar Abbas, TSO to Chairman, PARC, Sardar Ghulam Mustafa, Director, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Ghulam Shabbir Bohio, Direcrtor Arid Zone Research Institute (AZRI), and other scientists including progressive farmers Mian Saleem and Noor Ali Shah.

According to a press release issued here Tuesday,the provincial minister Syed Ali Mardan Shah, while presiding over a meeting at the PARC’s Research Station at Umer-kot, Sindh said that Sindh Government will provide all possible assistance to PARC for enhancing the agricultural production and income of farmers.

Earlier Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad witnessed Nursery of range and bio diesel plants, Live Herbarium, Medicinal Plants, Silvo Pastoral study, Grasses nursery, Grafted ber, Caster bean and “Suckh Chain” plants and bio-gas plant, Fodder and Horticultural crops. He also visited Sugarcane and Sugar beet fields in Thatta.
