Vertebrate Pest Management is a unique plant and environmental research and development activity addressed by National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad. The vertebrate pests, including rats, wild boar, porcupine and birds etc inflict heavy losses to the pre- harvest and post-harvest crop commodities and forest plantations, rangelands and irrigation systems. Pakistan Agricultural Research Council recognized the magnitude and importance of vertebrate pest problems and decided to establish this facility at NARC in 1989.

The task assigned to this unit is to undertake research in various disciplines of vertebrate pests and to develop safe, effective and economical control methods, which are suitable and practicable for traditional farmers. The research findings are disseminated to the farmers and other stake-holders in collaboration with the provisional agricultural functionaries and NGOs.
