Audio Visual Communication was established 25 years ago under USAID funded Management of Agricultural Research & Training (MART) Project as a unique facility with the latest and state of the art computerized communication systems for graphic designing, broadcasting, outdoor media coverage of field activities and production of a variety of audio-visual aids to facilitate training and expeditious transfer of scientific information and agriculture technologies to the end-users. Subsequently Non Linear Editing (NLE) facility was added and Studio facilities were upgraded. The main objectives of the AVC are as follows: |
OBJECTIVES
To design and produce to project are promote PARC programmes, activities and various types of audio-visual materials and documentaries/programmes achievements.
To organize the telecast and broadcast of the audio and video programmes produced by AV Communications on different channels.
To undertake research in communication methodology and organize training programmes in Information Transfer and Agricultural Communications.
To provide day-to-day services to PARC/NARC scientists regarding the design, production and utilization of audio-visual communications material.
To develop coordination with provincial audio-visual centers and provide technical guidance in planning and production of audio and video material.
SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION
AND ACHIEVEMENTS
In the early years and particularly during the development phase of the project
a tremendous job was done by the technical staff of the project. The significant
contribution of AVC includes inter alia the following:
Central Media Library
A Central Media Library, containing audio and video programmes produced by AVC
and acquired from other national and international agencies, and related
literature, has been established at AVC building. The objective is to make this
facility available to PARC scientists, PISA students, researchers, extension
workers, information transfer bureaus and other people interested to improve
their agricultural knowledge.
Video Documentaries/Programmes
230 video documentaries / programmes on different agricultural topics
have been produced. These documentaries programmes are being shown on PTV, ATV
and Sonhi Dahrti regularly. Most of these are in Urdu. Documentaries / programmes
produced by AV communications, NARC have been supplied to different
international, national and provincial organizations for their use.
PARC Radio Service
More than 3000 radio programmes containing interviews/discussions and short
messages of
agricultural scientists were produced by AVC and broadcast from different
stations of Radio Pakistan.
Training Programmes
Besides developing effective communication approaches, preparing scripts and
producing audio-visual materials, AVC has conducted the following training
programmes, for national and provincial agricultural communicators.

FUTURE THRUST
To establish a farmer centric Agricultural Communication System, to provide timely and effective assistance, reliable and useful agricultural information and research based advisory services for the farming community and other stakeholders across the country through an integrated service delivery model based on Web Technology, Television based mass media programs, Telephone based advisory, Mobile SMS based advisory and broadcast service and dedicated online Agriculture video channel etc.
