How many varieties have been developed by PARC and which are the varieties recommended for general cultivation?

Ans. PARC developed the following rapeseed (canola) varieties:

CON-I, CON-II, CON-III, Bulbil and Zafar-2000 Shiralee. H-19 is a candidate variety of PARC. In addition, some verities like Dunkled, Shiralee, Rainbow, Oscar, Range and Hyola have been introduced from Australia. These varieties are used for general cultivation in the country.

 

Which are the recommended fertilizers and their doze per acre?

Ans. One bag DAP, one bag urea and one bag potash/acre must be applied at the time of bed preparation in rainfed areas. In irrigated areas, half dose at the time of bed preparation and rest with second irrigation.

 

What are the sources of seed availability?

Ans. Seed of the above mentioned varieties is available from PODB Centers and dealers approved by PODB.

 

Which are the major diseases and how these can be controlled?

Ans.   

All these diseases are controlled by crop rotation and use of resistant varieties.

Sunflower

How many varieties have been developed by PARC and which are the varieties recommended for general cultivation?

Ans. PARSUN-II is a hybrid developed by PARC.

Recommended hybrids under general cultivation are Hysun-33, Hysun-38, Bemisal-205, 64-A 93, NKS-278, SF-187, G-101, DK-4040.

 

Which are the recommended fertilizers and their doze per acre?

Ans.    DAP, Potash, SSP, Amonium Sulphat, Urea.

What are the sources of seed availability?

Ans. For availability of seed of different hybrids, PODB and respective seed companies like ICI, Engro, Pioneer, Sengenta, Monsento and NARC.

Ans. Use healthy seed of recommended varieties with proper seed rate. Planting must be in lines keeping proper line to line and plant to plant distance to maintain 1,66,666 and 2,22,222 plants /acre in case of spreading and branch types respectively.


 

Sesame

How many varieties have been developed by PARC and which are the varieties recommended for general cultivation?

Ans. PARS-I, a candidate variety developed at NARC, is in final stage of outreach testing. Til-89, TS-3 and S-17 are recommended for general cultivation.

 

Which are the recommended fertilizers and their doze per acre?

Ans. Urea and DAP are recommended fertilizers.

 Dose:   One bag DAP + One bag urea (replanting)

                + ˝ urea per acre (at flowering stage)

 

What are the sources of seed availability?

Ans. Seed of recommended varieties is available from Director (Oilseed Research Institute) AARI, Faisalabad.

 

Which are the major diseases and how these can be controlled?

Ans. Leaf bacterial blight and phylloidy are major diseases. For blight control use healthy and treated seed with thirium @ 0.3%. Apply Dithene-M45 @ 500g /ac.

 

What are the major recommendations for farmers to improve Sesame production/ productivity?

Ans. Crop be planted only in lines using 2-2˝ kg seed /acre. At sowing and flowering time recommended dose of fertilizer must be applied. At flowering one irrigation is essential to save the crop from stress. Plant population must be around 220,000 /acre.

 


Safflower

How many varieties have been developed by PARC and which are the varieties recommended for general cultivation?

Ans. PARC has tested a large number of germplasm lines of different breeders. In Pakistan suitable varieties recommended for cultivation are:

Gila-10, Thori-78, Pawari-95 and D-Sindh.
