New RADP project launches

The program executive committee (PEC) of RADP, PARC approved a new project   on  Development of  Decision Support System for management of stored wheat at public sector godowns,

The yield of papaya was found significantly influenced (P < 0.001) by carbofuran and  four plant

extracts tested.  The yield was increased over the controls in the order Withania somnifera > Carbofuran > Azadirachta indica > Tagetes erecta > Eucalyptus citriodora. Harvest also differed significantly (P < 0.05) with an increasing trend over the fruiting period. The interaction of treatments x harvest was also found to be significant (P = < 0.01).

 

 

Chairman PARC Visited SARC and inaugurated Lab at Livestock Fisheries research unit

 

Dr. M. E. Tusneem, Chairman PARC visited SARC Karachi from. July 10-11, 2008. He had a very hectic schedule during his stay and had meetings, presentations and visits to various institutes and section of SARC. During his visit he also inaugurated newly constructed Lab at Livestock Fisheries Research Unit. more

 

Introduction to SARC

 

Southern Zone Agricultural Research Centre is the second largest research establishment of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council(PARC). Located at Karachi Sindh more than 50 scientists at various research institutes are addressing issues in agriculture with particular reference to Sindh and partly Baluchistan. Main research institutes at SARC are classified into plant production, plant protection and livestock & Fisheries.

 

Objectives of SARC

 

·         To undertake agricultural research of national importance in crop, animal, social sciences and natural resources in specialized disciplines (such as grain storage management, pesticide residues, crop diseases, coastal agriculture, sugar crops, vertebrate pest control & livestock and fisheries)

·         To develop, validate and disseminate appropriate technologies to end-users (farmers, industries and research institutes)

·         To interact with national and international institutions for collaborative research and other professional matters

·         To provide analytical, diagnostic, consultancy and advisory Services to farmers/entrepreneurs and other agencies
