LIVESTOCK RESEARCH STATION

Objectives: 

a)    To Establish and maintain a nucleus herd of 50 Jersey cows for the  up gradation of non-descript cattle of  the country.

 

b)    To facilitates the Animal Scientists to conduct the research trails.

         

Major Achievements:

The use of Jersey cattle for crossbreeding has been successful in the area.  The male calves were sold to the farmers for upgrading local cattle population.  The crossbred thus produced have shown encouraging results. The milk production potential of crossbred have improved manifolds as compared to contemporary locals. Moreover, their age at maturity has been reduced from 3 years to 1 ½ years, saving expenditure on their feeding and maintenance.  The crossbreds are becoming popular among the farmers due to these desirable economic and dairy traits.
